1. Whatnot introduces volume-based coin commissions

2. NGC’s guarantee has a ten-year claim limit
NGC’s guarantee terms, revised June 2, 2026, require authenticity or overgrading claims to be submitted within ten years of the grading date. The limitation applies broadly to NGC-certified coins, tokens and medals, not merely copper-color protection. NGC says the expiration may be extended by submitting a coin through its ReGrade service.Important limitations include:- NGC Ancients authenticity remains excluded.
- Compensation disregards premiums attributed to varieties, pedigrees and special labels.
- Purchase and payment documentation may be required.
- Post-encapsulation spotting, haze, corrosion and other deterioration are excluded.
- An original submitter’s recovery can be limited to the grading fees paid.
Seller action: Before listing an expensive NGC Chinese or world coin, verify its certification and guarantee-expiration date. Retain invoices and screenshots. For an older, high-value slab, compare the commercial benefit and cost of NGC ReGrade versus a PCGS crossover.
Interpretation: An expired guarantee does not make an older NGC slab raw or invalidate its displayed grade. It does mean the financial protection may have expired. PCGS continues to advertise a lifetime grade-and-authenticity guarantee for its Chinese and world coins, subject to its own terms.3. Top-end U.S. patterns remain exceptionally strong
PCGS reported that the finest-known Quintuple Stella sold during September for a record $2,562,000. PCGS also revised its price guides for Draped Bust, Classic Head and Coronet Head cents.Seller action: Recheck prices before renewing early large-cent listings or accepting offers. Genuinely elite patterns, finest-known pieces and coins with documented pedigrees remain better candidates for major auction placement than ordinary fixed-price listings.
Interpretation: This result confirms strength at the trophy level, but one exceptional sale does not show that average U.S. coins—or the wider Chinese market—are rising.
