GREAT BRITAIN: Victoria, 1837-1901, AE penny, 1858, KM-739, Spink-3948, large date, without WW on truncation, NGC graded MS63 BN.

 

 

The 1858 UK penny obverse features the head

of young Queen Victoria facing left, with ribbons

in her hair (young head). The surrounding legend

reads: 'VICTORIA DEI GRATIA', with the

date below.

 

The reverse shows Britannia seated facing right,

holding a trident, hand resting on a shield.

The legend reads 'BRITANNIAR: REG: FID:

DEF:', with a rose, thistle, and shamrock below.

 

Primary varieties: 'large date, W.W.', 'large date, no W.W.',

'small date, W.W.', 'small date, no W.W.',

'8 over 3',  '8 over 6', and '8 over 7'
