Historical Background

Charles VI – The Last Male Habsburg Emperor

Charles VI (1685–1740) ruled as Holy Roman Emperor from 1711 until his death in 1740.

He was the last male ruler of the Austrian Habsburg dynasty and father of the celebrated Empress Maria Theresa.

His reign was marked by diplomatic struggles, territorial disputes, and the challenge of preserving the Habsburg inheritance.

One of his most consequential political achievements was the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713, intended to ensure that his daughter Maria Theresa could inherit the Habsburg hereditary territories.

After his death in 1740, disputes over his succession contributed to the War of the Austrian Succession.

This remarkable silver thaler was struck in 1733, during the height of the Habsburg monarchy's influence in Central Europe.

The Historic Hall Mint

The Hall Mint in Tyrol was one of Europe's most important historic minting centers.

Located near Innsbruck, Hall played a major role in the development of large silver coinage, including the early thalers that influenced European and international monetary systems.

The 1733 Charles VI Thaler continues this celebrated tradition of Austrian silver crown production.

Obverse Design

The obverse features a magnificent right-facing laureate, draped, and armored bust of Emperor Charles VI.

The emperor is depicted wearing classical Roman-style armor, reflecting the imperial traditions of the Holy Roman Empire.

The surrounding Latin legend identifies Charles VI by his imperial and royal titles.

The portrait displays attractive detail in the emperor's flowing hair, laurel wreath, facial features, and decorative armor.

Reverse Design

The reverse features the imposing crowned, double-headed imperial eagle, one of the most recognizable symbols of the Habsburg monarchy and Holy Roman Empire.

The eagle bears an elaborate crowned coat of arms on its breast and holds the traditional instruments of imperial authority.

The surrounding inscription identifies the Austrian and Tyrolean titles of the ruler, together with the date 1733.

The intricate heraldic design and impressive engraving make this coin a particularly attractive example of eighteenth-century European numismatic artistry.

Condition and Eye Appeal

This exceptional specimen has been independently certified PCGS MS62, confirming its Mint State preservation.

The coin displays attractive silver-gray surfaces with subtle warm golden toning around portions of the devices and peripheral lettering.

The detailed imperial portrait and double-headed eagle are particularly appealing, with strong definition throughout many of the design elements.

The large silver format enhances the artistic presentation of this classic European crown.
